Classic Romance: Walking On Sunshine closes this Thursday

April 16, 2007

I’m a little sad to be posting about this, but I do hope you can make it.

Classic Romance 2: Walking on Sunshine The Series is closing its five-week run this Thursday, April 19, at 8:30 pm at the Teatrino.  It’s been an unforgettable experience.  Classic Romance 2 allowed me to meet some really wonderful people, and through it I was given a chance to work with some of the finest musicians in the country.  It has also given Mia and I the opportunity to see the goodness and faithfulness of God.

Come and join me as I celebrate the wonderful journey this has brought us through.  I will truly miss it.

For tickets, please contact 0918-6101016 or 0919-2363355.  Also available at Teatrino (721-0635, 722-4501 loc 116) and TicketWorld 891-9999.

PAP Exhibits “KutKot: Cut Above the Rest” at the Yellow Door Gallery

Printmaking in the Philippines has come a long way, but not without the significant role of the Philippine Association of Printmakers, the prime mover of the art form in the country. With its almost forty years of existence, the association has faithfully promoted the fine art medium of printmaking as a major form of expression. It has produced from its ranks respected artists who gave serious attention to the medium and continue to train young promising printmakers. In the recent years, with the assistance of the NCCA, they traveled across the country covering more than twenty venues to conduct lectures, demos and workshops in the different techniques, bringing with them a collection of prints for exhibition.

Today the PAP continues to bring art to the people in their latest project, “KutKot : Cut Above the Rest,” an exhibition of fine prints and an afternoon lecture-demo presented by Yellow Door Gallery at the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Makati. The exhibition which runs from April 16-26, 2007, features new works by PAP members and selected works culled from the association’s collection. Among the works are etchings by three National Artists – Arturo Luz, Jerry Elizalde Navarro and Bencab, and fine prints in varied techniques by Virgilio Aviado, Fil Delacruz, Raul Isidro, Rod Paras-Perez, Juvenal Sanso, Benjie Torrado Cabrera, Jess Flores, Ambie Abano, Rhoda Recto, Christopher Bayani, Janos Delacruz, Bernard Temporosa, Mimsy Sermonia, Camille Dela Rosa, Reynaldo Concepcion, Noell EL Farol, Neil Doloricon, Manny Baldemor, Mario Parial, Evelyn Collantes, Jose Delima, Ojeng Jocano, Butch Payawal, Charito Bitanga, Susan Fetalvero Roces, Roger San Miguel, Heber Bartolome, and Phyllis Zaballero.

The lecture-demo on intaglio process slated for April 22, Sunday, at 2:00 in the afternoon is hoped to enlighten the general public on the many qualities and benefits that fine prints have to offer.

Opening cocktails is at 6:30 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007. For inquiries and to confirm attendance at the lecture-demo, please call 0920.962.43.47 or email k.rocha@yellowdoorgallery.net.

Thank you, Nick, for this post. I am reprinting it here in full (I hope Nick doesn’t mind), so go and send some hits his way. He’s got a great blog full of beautiful pictures and interesting information, too. He isn’t one of Technorati’s top 100 bloggers in the Philippines for nothing. (And my wife made sure I posted this because he said she was pretty.)
————————

Raymond Lauchengco’s concert was a night of surprises.

When we entered Teatrino, we didn’t expect it to be laid-out like a cozy restaurant. We got seated very near the stage, and a waiter promptly handed over the menu. Having had dinner only moments before, we simply ordered for drinks.

While chatting the time away, a pretty lady hovered around and talked with the guests. “That must be Mia, Raymond’s wife”, Tina casually said. Yes, we are now on a first-basis with the celebrities.

A little while later she arrived at our table and her face lighted up with recognition. “Tina! Nick!”, she exclaimed. Have I mentioned that we’re first-name basis with celebrities? :-)

She knew us from the photos in my blog actually. My wife then handed over a basket of strawberries to Mia, who was truly gracious in receiving the pasalubong. Thanks Mia for the autographed poster too!

Soon enough the concert started with a brief announcement and the stage curtain was lifted. A 7-piece orchestra played broadway style and Raymond Lauchengco dashed into the stage!

Whoa. I was still half-expecting the voice I’ve heard from 20 years ago. Now, his voice is fuller, more mature, and with a broadway feel to it.

After a couple of songs, he did a medley of tunes he was identified with through the years which include Shadow of Time (which I haven’t heard for so many years and then I recalled it just then), So It’s You, Farewell (very popular with graduation rites).

Raymond then mentioned that we has cutting a new album which was hopefully going to be released real soon, and that he will be singing some songs from that album. Well, I’m not really a fan of sneak peeks and would rather hear familiar tunes for the rest of the concert. But the songs he did were fun! I won’t say what they were right now for you might want to watch his concert too. It’ll be a nice surprise.

He also belted out a number of Broadway songs. Surprisingly, I was able to correlate too, though I’m not big on plays. He did the more popular ones anyway.

Overall it was definitely an enjoyable evening. Raymond even greeted us from the stage! That was an awkward moment for me; I don’t like being the center of attention. But still, that was a nice surprise.

This part was real nice. A single spotlight was focused on the biggest mirror ball, spreading soft rays of light into the dimly-lit hall. I can’t catch the effect with the camera, unfortunately. Still got lots to learn.
